Welcome to Union, operated by Union App ("we", "our", or "us"). Union is a social application that connects university students worldwide, enabling chat, event sharing, and community building across campuses and countries.

We respect your privacy and process personal data in line with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act and Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), and other applicable laws. By using Union, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

2. Data We Collect

• Personal information: full name, email address, profile photo.
• Usage data: app activity (e.g., events posted, messages sent), device/OS, IP address, language, region, and aggregated interaction data via Google Analytics.

We do not collect special categories of data (e.g., health, religion, political opinions).

3. Purpose of Processing

• Account creation & authentication (email + verification links).
• Core features (chat, event creation, networking).
• Service communications (login links, password resets, important notices). No marketing without explicit consent.
• Analytics & product improvements.
• Security and abuse prevention.

We never sell your personal data.

4. Legal Basis (GDPR)

• Consent: when you sign up and accept this Policy.
• Legitimate interest: maintain functionality, integrity and user safety (incl. authentication).
• Legal obligation: where required to comply with applicable laws.

You may withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account or emailing info@unionerasmus.com.

5. Data Access & Third Parties

Access to personal data is restricted to the Union App team and processors acting on our behalf, including:
• Supabase (data storage, email authentication, backend).
• Google Analytics (usage analytics).

All providers are contractually bound to process data securely and only as instructed by Union.

6. Data Storage & Security

Personal data is stored on secure servers within the European Union or with providers ensuring GDPR compliance. We apply HTTPS encryption in transit, access controls (least privilege), secure email-based authentication via Supabase, and vulnerability monitoring.

7. Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to collect anonymous statistics (e.g., user counts, session duration, popular screens). Google may use cookies or device identifiers. Learn more at policies.google.com/privacy. You can opt out by disabling analytics (if available) or by contacting us.

8. Data Retention

We retain personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes described or as required by law. If you delete your account, your data will be permanently removed within 30 days.

9. Your Rights (GDPR)

If you are in the EU/EEA, you have the right to access, rectify, delete, restrict or object to processing, and request portability of your data. Contact info@unionerasmus.com. We will respond within 30 days.

10. CCPA/CPRA (California Residents)

California residents may have rights to know what data we collect and how it is used, request deletion, opt out of data sales (we do not sell data), and be free from discrimination for exercising privacy rights. To submit a request, email info@unionerasmus.com.

11. Children’s Privacy

Union is intended for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If we become aware that a child under 18 has provided personal data, we will delete it immediately.

12. International Data Transfers

Where data is transferred outside the EU (e.g., to Google’s servers in the United States), we rely on appropriate safeguards, including the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs).
